Neuro Gait Assessment: Case 1 Notes

Fred is a 69 year old male who is 3/12 post R TACI stroke. You are a community physiotherapist seeing Fred for regular rehabilitation. This is your initial consult with Fred since he was discharged from the sub-acute rehabilitation unit. Fred’s primary complaint is his gait pattern, as he is still struggling to mobilise nil aid due to the associated fatigue and effort required to do so.

Upon gait assessment, you find the following:

  • Decreased velocity
  • Decreased L step length
  • Shorter L stance duration
  • Decreased L heel strike
  • Decreased hip extension terminal L stance
  • Decreased arm swing L>R
  • Positive trendelenberg L stance phase
  • Hitching L pelvis through swing phase
